The eastern half of Colombia, also called “Llanos orientales”, is characterized by thickly wooded lowland, a vast savanna which expands to the Venezuelan border. Gigantic haciendas, innumerable rivers and lush grassland as far as the eye can see. The inhabitants of the zone are the Llaneros, completely comparable with the North American cowboys or the Gauchos in Argentina. They are well known for their horsemanship and a sincere hospitality.
